mantis shrimp??

ok so my gf want to get a mantis shrimp because they look cool... i dont know anything about them and from the post that ive seen on here everybody wants them out of their tanks, so i told her she shouldnt get one, but she insist on me askin yall if it would be fine in her tank and if they are reef safe??????

no they are not reef safe they will kill all living things. they need to be in their own tank by themselves their is a smasher and a slasher. they can split your finger open in less than a second. they need to be feed crabs and snails or just about any crustation or small fish.

Some people enjoy keeping them as pets, but like others have said, they must be kept on their own. They will kill any other fish or inverts in the tank. The pretty, colorful ones sell for a pretty good price.

I kept one in a 30gal with a seahorse for a while.JD ( the mantis ) was cool to watch and feed.I hand fed him silver sides all the time.
Eventually traded the seahorse and gave JD away.

JD didnt.But he was also an extremely well fed mantis.I fed him every day because he'd climb up on my hand to eat.
