there is a mated pair of clownfish on a local classifieds website. on the ad it says there a mated pair but she has not tried to breed them. is a mated pair of clowns different than a breeding pair? or what

It sounds like this is just a pair of clowns. If they are a mated pair they should be a breeding pair as well.

Ask her if they have or are actively laying eggs. If so they are a mated/breeding pair, if not they are just a pair of clowns.

Keep in mind that even a pair that is actively laying eggs will most likely stop doing such when they move into your tank. The move is stressful by itself, and the water conditions will not be the same.

Lot of people try to get more money by saying mated pair as well. Better see some prove like pictures of them with the egg.
