Metal Halide Pendant & Ballast Question.

Sir Alex

Dragon the eel (below)
I don't exactly understand how it works. I want someone to explain it to me. Does each pendant need it's own ballast?

If I were to do this on my 110 how many would I need? 3?

Depends, there are duo ballasts out there. So they would control 2 lights. But for the most part a pendant halide uses one ballast. And, the number of pendants would depend on how high you plan on sticking them, and what wattage are you using? You could use just 2 pendants if you kept everything to the sides and only low light critters in the center.

It's five feet long. Maybe 3 250 watt ones? Is that enough?

I probably won't be keeping any photosynthetics in my 110 the for quite a while. I'll just leave it as a EOWLRAAFI (eel only with live rock and a few inverts) tank. Right now I'm investing all of my money in my 75 gallon reef.

Well if your not going with corals in there, there is no need for 250w, you'll be just fine with 175w halides. 110 is less than 18"deep correct?
