mini canister filter

If you need something to polish the water like carbon, floss, phosphate media then sure.Clean it regularly or use it on a part time basis, for instance 7-10 days out of the month. Its $20,why not?

If you use it everyday than it will need to be cleaned every two weeks.Better would be every week.Canisters can become a nitrate and phosphate factory if not cleaned regularly.....which btw leads to nuisance algae problems.

What do you have for filtration?
You have live rock and how much?
If you have 1-2lbs of live rock per gallon and a protein skimmer than you don't really need a filter. If you are lacking one or the other than I would run a HOB filter or canister.

If you have enough live rock, you can get by without any sort of filter for a nano. But you have to be very diligent with regular water changes. There are a lot of people that run nanos filterless, but you have to be very careful, there isn't much room for error.
