mossy powerhead

One of my powerheads has green moss coming out or growing out of the slits. What is the best way of removing this. I don't want this clogging up the openings.

Also, there is a little polyp growing out of my UV Sterilizer slit. Will this do any damage to the sterilizer?

It's algae. You should clean your powerheads about once a month. Take them off, take them apart, and let them soak in a 1/2 vinegar 1/2 water bath. Scrub off any algae or coralline build up with a hard-bristled brush. Rinse them off in water, and put them back in your tank. Their flow will be impeded if you don't keep them clean.
