move a tank

Looking for feedback on how to move a saltwater tank from one location to another with little disruption. It is a 30 gallon tank with about 30lbs of live rock. Any help would be appreciated

Really no easy way around it. Place all your livestock on buckets with the tank water. Live rock can go in a cooler covered with a wet towel. Keep the sand in the tank when you move it and rinse it before you start to put the rock and livestock back in it.

1+ the sand issue. This is the biggest risk. Old sand tends to collect detritus no matter how well you maintain your tank. If you stir up the detritus out of the sand in your new tank it will cause a deadly cycle. Rinse your sand in old tank water before re-use --of course. ALSO, when removing rock, GO SLOW, being careful not to stir up detritus as you breakdown the old tank. Get the livestock out before you touch the sand. You can also pre-cycle new sand in another tank or even a plastic 5G bucket and use that then ditch the old sand.

No, if you keep the live rock wet you should not have to re-cycle the tank. Starting with new substrate is a really good idea, it prevents the biggest potential source of problems
