    whats going on yall,

well after 4 yrs of college and not totally being happy with what i was doing, i decided to enroll somewhere i knew i would enjoy. So i applied, been through an interview, and Ive been accepted to UTI (collision repair/refinishing). Its in Houston (i live in SC) and i am a little nervous. Not worried really about the classes (last for 51 weeks) but just the distance. my girlfriend cant move with me because she starts clinicals in january (nursing major) so ill be going alone. anyone ever been to houston? is it laid back there? ill be leaving mid-feb.

NDB lived in Houston for a couple years. Beware the traffic!!! The only time I've ever been is driving through. There is so much to do there, so if you like huge cities, you'll be in your element (neither one of us are "big city" people).

Congrats on the new program too!

Houston sucked when I lived out there, but I guess it would for a backwoods redneck from Tenn.
BUT,Theres some great fishing along the gulf coast down around Texas City,Baytown.Galviston was alright.
Just make sure you drive across the Fred Hartman bridge when you cross the ship channel.I helped build it :D

Houston's alright. Austin is much cooler.
I guess it depends what you are into. If you like to eat, you are definitely coming to the right place. ;)

Most people in Houston are not from Houston. Especially if you are "inside the loop" (610). All the cool shit happens there. Look for places to live near Midtown or Montrose, although Montrose is a little uh.... "livelier". lol
Part of Houston is laid back, part of it is old fashioned, part of it is downright back asswards. But that last part tends to be worse the farther out you go from downtown. Traffic does suck but at least I-10 has been completely transformed and is now like 12 lanes wide. That helps a ton. Whatever you do, DO NOT live out on the North West side if you have to travel on 290 into town. Right now that is probably the worse freeway and 45 south is not much better. There's just sooooo many people/cars here.

Galveston sucks ass if you are used to the east coast water. Actually, Galveston sucks ass if you are used to ANY water. But it's a beach and it's the only beach we've got (not counting lakes on the north side outside of houston). Hurricane season can be a bitch, and the summers are HOT and LOOOOONG. It's pretty nice this time of year though. Housing is cheap! We have LFSs all over town so you will be near at least one pretty much no matter where you live. Also check out MARSHReef.com for the local reefing club. Sapphire Aquatics is here in houston too, for all your sump and tank needs.

If you need to know anything else let me know.

    Great description Dennis.
I lived there for a while in the early 90's. I think it has got pretty much something for everyone. It is very large and is alive 24/7. Always stuff to do. It can be a great place to live and a awful place to live. Have fun and enjoy all it has to offer.

NDB lived there while he was working for the Houston Texans and dating one of the Texans cheerleaders (their house was on one of those lakes you mentioned, Dennis -- I think). Up until last year, he still worked for the Texans every football season but then the recession came. They said they hopefully want to start up stunts again next year, so I will be looking forward to visiting Houston should he be fortunate enough to be able to do stunts again. There are tons of things I'd like to do/see in the city that I've read about.

I have been to some of those on Corporate outings. Wow! Some of them were so exclusive and plush. Top notched for sure. Oh and expensive membership only clubs too.

He does stunts during pre-game and half-time shows. Like, if you see the mascot swinging in from the rafters of the stadium, or if someone rappels down from a helicopter, that's him. He also coordinates and does any pyrotechnic shows that go on in the stadium.

This is him in the Texans stadium practicing one of the stunts before a game from a couple years ago. He's the one jumping:
