mushroom splitting

Are mushrooms supposed to split?? Ive had one in my tank for close to a year and it hasnt split yet. It went from a diameter of 1.5 inches to like 6 inches now... but it doesnt split. Is it a bad sign if it doesnt? It opens up fully everyday and seems healthy/happy but i wasnt sure.

If you want it to split, force it. Take a razor blade and cut it down the middle, making sure that all the new pieces have a piece of the mouth with it. The new "slices" should grow into their own shrooms.
