My living reef

Nitrates at 20 can be fatal to SPS corals like acros and montis. They really need nitrates to be as close to zero as possible.

I don't know if overstocking is the only reason. When you removed all your filter pads and stuff the nitrates dropped by half, right? Overstocking could be responsible for some of it. There are other reasons for high nitrates as well -- using canister or HOB filters, using crushed coral substrate instead of sand, overfeeding, using flake or pellet foods. It could be a combination of many factors.

Since removing all the filter pads I have no other method of filtering, all I have is the refugem with live rock and chaeto, do i need anything as well, my skimmer is working well

The skimmer is your method of filtration. That's good! The chaeto should help remove nitrates as well. Does your chaeto grow? If so, you should prune it occasionally.

Not too sure if the chaeto is growing, light on from 11pm to 11am, I only feed fish on frozen food, it's so strange how the skimmer performs differently depending on the depth of water in the sump

few more photo's Sid the royal gramma has come out to feed at last, plus a few more photo's I took today

2 photos of tank, sorry about reflection of lamp

What kind of lighting do you use to take your photos? Do you have the camera's flash on or off? Tank lights on? Room lights on or dark around the tank? Just wondering, since your photos come out so amazing every time!

Everything looks AMAZING!!

And, I agree with Biff, what's your photo-taking secret? ;)

Hi Sarah, camera is just a Nikon D40, Lighting is just the tank lighting from my no flash in RAW and adjust accordingly, lights are my LED KR 92 which are superb, thanks for your encouraging interest and comments, so pleased you like them
