my wet\dry

I am wanting to change my wet\dry by taking all the bio\ball out and putting live rock in insted. do you guys think that would be a good idea? and what other things could i do i just dont think that the bio balls work that great. I have about a hundred pounds of rock in my tank and about a three to four ince sand bed.

yes you can do that and that is even better for your filtration but remove the bioballs slowly, i would say a handfull each week untill you removed everything then add the LR.
I have about 50 lbs of LR in the return section of my sump.

Do i need to put a light on the rock and or do i need to put sand in the filter?

if it's only LR no need for lights.

this tank has been running for about 8 years and i have only cleaned the balls once. i just think that they are ugly.

Have the rock rubble underwater otherwise it won't be any better than bioballs.Honestly,you have plenty of live rock so rock rubble in the sump is a personal choice.It sure wouldn't hurt any.

sounds like you have plenty O' LR. just take out the bioballs and you will be set
