Mystery of the Bugs Solved

Several times in the past I've turned on my blue moonlights at night only to see thousands of little bugs floating and occasionally darting around in the water column.

Last night I saw a hermit lift his shell way up, almost coming out of it, and release thousands of little bugs (eggs?) into the water. The whole tank was filled with them. My blue-green reef chromis and corals chowed on them.

Sorry but pics are hard to get in the dark.

I wonder if hermits hold their eggs on their belly like peppermint shrimp do. Then release the newly hatched babies.

That is way cool to see something like that

I saw this whole thing again last night. The hermit holds its shell up almost completely off itself and then spews eggs everywhere. Am I the only person that has this in their tank?

Consider the female crab, the normal one, usually just carry the eggs under their belly. I would guess the hermit would do something similar? I think you just saw a male enjoying himself. :D
