need help identifying this crab

    is this a good or bad to have in a reef> i just found it on my sps. there is another one which is maybe 3-5 time the size of this one on my tank trying to catch it for a week now. any ideas on how to catch it if it is a bad crab?

    and oh my son is playing with this one. he said that it is his pet now since i took it out of my tank.

    If it was living in one of your larger SPS then it is probibly some kind of acro crab which live in SPS colonies. They keep the coral clean and the coral keeps them fed.

    It does look like an acro crab. They are pretty cool looking, but I thought that they only lived on acropora?

    nope not an acro crab.

    Acro crabs have a smooth body that looks more like a gorilla crab to me, the rule I and most the SPS keepers I know follow if it doesn't look like the one in this picture it gets flushed. Especially the hairy ones.

    Good to know, the LFS tried to sell me a crab that looks exactly like the one pictured at the top, as an acro crab. Good thing it was shy I guess.
