new fuge built how to start dsb?

    Just got done building fuge area in my sump and want to get it started but need info. sand,rock and how to kick start it without it damaging my main tank. I want to have like 5" sand bed with a few LR pieces and cheato.How to add sand and what kind? rather go with fine sand. Any suggestions would be very helpfull. Right now its empty

    A DSB should be at least 6" deep. Anything less won't be effective. You can use any type of reef sand you want for it. You won't be damaging your main tank. I would add some small pieces of live rock or dry rock to give pods a place to live. And some chaetomorpha (chaeto) as your macroalgae.

    Thanks alot. That was my plan but just wanted to make sure and I will get some cuc down there as well.Will snails crawl out?
