New Skimmer Question

I just got a bakpak skimmer from Daugherty a few days ago. Over the weekend I got it set up and running. It's been skimming great right form the start. I had to empty the collection cup twice so far and its been brown and smelly. :pooh: Anyway, I do run into a little issue w/ the skimming when I put food in the tank. It seems that when I put in the food the skimming stops and takes about an hour or more to get back on track again. Is this normal? I tried to turn the skimmer off this morning during feeding. When I put it back on I had to readjust the air setting and collection cup height. Advise please! :bowdown:

set the cup up high above the water and let it run like that for a few days than slowly move the cup down a little at a time and when i used in my the 10gal nano i ran it with full air
