New Stand - dont have expierence with metal stands

I just bought a used stand online. When I bought it I didn't realize that the frame was made out of metal. I plan on putting my 30g tank on the top while my 20g sump on the bottom shelf. Just wanted some peoples opinions on whether or not they think it will work.

The bottom of the legs don't have much surface area so I was thinking of putting the legs on 2x4s or something.

I would run some 2x4 along the length of the legs, cut them just a bit longer, use a hammer to force the 2x4 in.

looks like 1 1/2 x 1 1/12 x 1/8 angle iron. For a few bucks you can probably sweet talk your local metal fab shop into boxing in the bottom with the same material. I've done that on several of my friends metal tank stands and seems to strengthen quite well.
