New To Reef Cycling Question

I'm new to reefing. Matter of fact just put water and dry rock in my 125 gallon tank and filled it with water. I have not put my live sand it yet but have it. I have a couple of questions.

Should I go ahead and add the live sand now or let my dry rock culture a little bit? if so how long?

I have several fresh water tanks set up and run foam filters in them to keep bacteria in the event I need to quick start a new tank. My second question is can I use those foam filters in my saltwater tank quick start the cycle?

Hi and welcome to LR!

I would of put my sand in before filling the tank because it is a lot easier. I would go ahead and add the sand. You can use a piece of raw table shrimp to kick start the cycle. I wouldn't use those filters to do it.
