Nitrates dropping...

I failed Kobayashi Maru
Weird....I haven't done a water change in my 42 gallon in maybe a month...I kept testing nitrates, and they're around 5-10ppm...constantly...so I bought a new test kit...nitrates register at less than 5ppm (Not that I'm complaining!!!). My 10 gallon (with the new test kit) is higher, it's around 15ppm, so I'm going to do a water change this weekend on it. But at least I know my test kit is good.

I mean, don't get me wrong; I'm happy that my nitrates on the larger tank are down. But before, I used to have to change 5-10% every 2 weeks. Is it because the tank is finally maturing and stabilizing? I know my Berlin Red Sea classic skimmer gave me problems the first month, but now, it seems to be working great. Plus I noticed the water might be getting better because I got better lighting for my fuge, and my chaeto is HUGE. I'm going to trim it soon and use the trimmings for my 10 gallon's fuge. But I guess the fuge may have helped with the nitrates.

You'd be surprised at how quick a fuge can take up nitrates and phosphates.
Plus I'm kinda starting to wonder if maybe you can do to many water changes.
