Nitrates/Nitrites

Dubby Tee

So I'm basically all set up and ready for fish/corals, but I am having a rough time getting my nitrates and nitrites down. All of the live rock seems to be doing fine, along with my cleaners. The pH is at 8.2, salinity is at 1.022, ammonia is basically at 0 ppm (slight trace, not high at all), but the nitrates and nitrites are super high. I have been doing regular water changes (about 25% every two days), and they will go down, but shoot right back up. I was wondering if I should put any chemicals in the tank to help them decrease, because they are not going down. :frustrat:

Getting nitrates and nitrites down can take months or longer.
Wait till the cycle is finished.
Use refugiums with cheato, strong flow and strong light.
Use protein skimmers.
Use phosphate reactors and other media based filters.
Add more LR.

As stated above, add more live rock. But first, how much live rock do you currently have? Live rock is the base to forming beneficial bacteria along with live sand.
