Nitrates

I have no fish in the tank yet. I was told to feed my shrimp and hermits. All I give them is a pinch of dried food. Which is not much at all. I only feed once a day. My trates were 15pmg. So they went up from the last time I tested. Everything else is readng ok. Like I said earlier my calcium when up a little.

The nitrates could be leaching out of your rock work and sand.Ive read that can happen when you have a pretty good spike.
Just be sure to do a 10 to 20% water change a week ,That will help keep them from climbing to high.

I think your nitrates are coming from feeding. You shouldn't have to feed those guys every day, and flakes have been known to cause increased phosphate and nitrate levels. You might want to switch to frozen food now, before it becomes too much of a problem.
