I have a small octopus - size of hand or smaller. It was fine for a few months, and then, unexpectedly it lost most of its arms. I asked a dealer and he said sometimes they get so hungry they eat their own legs - I was afraid of that. Problem is is that he gets plenty of food. I give him live crab, live shrimp and have tried to feed him silversides, frozen shrimp and squid and he refuses to eat - he just wants to eat his legs!
I'm afraid I am too late - but just in case anyone has any ideas. I check my ph, amm and nitrite often and it is usually between 0 and 25 and ph is 8.3 to 8.4 and salt level is 1.023 to 1.026 - he does seem to prefer higher salt levels.
I do have a protein skimmer which never seems to need cleaning - I don't quite understand the tiny skimmers. Their is plenty of live rock and shells for him to hide in.
Any suggestions?
