# of CUC

habitual reefer
according to Live Aquaria, a 30 gallon tank requires

20-45 hermit crabs
10-15 snails
+emerald crabs, shrimps, and nassarius snails.

is that excessive?

I think it's a bit much. However they probably send you tiny, tiny livestock. So in that case, no. You restock when things die.

I got my cuc from them. Yes, they are tiny. And they didn't make a dent in the clean up of my tank. I went to the lfs, he set me up with a cuc, they were much bigger and did a fantastic job.

Are you just starting this tank up. If it`s a pretty new tank I would start slow and build up. You dont want your CUC starving to death.

+1 Mike
You want just enough of a CUC to keep up with the chore.Any more and they'll starve.
Add a few and see how they do,then add a few more, until you got enough to keep the tank clean.

It really depends on your individual system I would say. Things like your maintenance regiment, equipment, lighting, etc etc, would effect the size of your cuc.
