I grow phytoplankton and do not know what a phyto reactor is. Or a zinn reactor. You have my curiousity. Where have you read about phyto reactors or zinn reactors? I have not done much brousing these last two semesters though, so I may be totally left out of something better than what I use. Maybe it is just the terminology I am unfamiliar with.

The zinn reactor was one of the pieces of equipment that a reefkeeping reefer had in his setup. http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2003-06/totm/index.php

i was most interested in the zinn reactor, as it cultured rotifers as well as phyto in the same tank.

Can not understand why a person would want to spend the money for that stuff. Phytoplankton is so easy to cultivate. I used 2 liter soda bottles for a little over a month then switched to a plastic bag system. My lights are just 6500K fluorescent. All that is needed besides that is some PVC pipe and PVC fittings to hold the bag tops and the airline tubing, and an air pump with a filter. I have recently ordered cotton filter holders to do a way with the expensive laboratory filters I have been using. My rotifer and artemia systems are also home built simple systems. The commercial units may look prettier but the performance is no better. I would have stayed with the 2 liter soda bottles, but they are not regularly available here anymore. My whole live food culturing system fits in a small coat closet.

do you have pictures of your setup? I'm on a space constraint, that is why the zinn reactor looks appealing.

I have no pictures, and really have an adversion to pictures of me or my possesions. I can scan a picture I used for assembly of mine as well as a URL where the bags were bougt. I get them and all my culturen, nets, foods, and other supplies from Florida Aqua Farms Inc. www:florida-aqua-farms.com On page 18of there catalog is a picture of the Phytoplankton system I set up, with the bags purchased from them. I however just plastic wiretied my airlines to the PVCpiping rather than run iy as they do.The lights I used are just cheap "under counter" flourescent lights from Home Depot.
