Playing with my nipples and just can't get it right :)

Hi all,

Now that I have your attention I am having trouble getting the MH bulbs nipple pointing up.

I tried to turn the sockets to make it so the nipple is up on the bulb. However, I can only turn the socket 180 degrees to keep the holes lining up...so neither nipple is facing "up as in 12 o'clock" They are maybe at 2:30 :)

Is this ok? Any other way to "tweak" it?
Should I really be caring?

I have never noticed or seen any difference in color or intensity regardless of how the nipple is oriented and I've been using single ended MH's over my tank for 20+ yrs.

See the little bump on the inside bulb itself.

That is called the nipple. It has been said that it needs to be pointing straight up to get proper color temp and life out of the bulb.

Ask your LFS to show you any manufacturers specs that say the nipple has to be oriented in a certain way. I'm betting he can't. ;)
