Power heads

Anyone notice that power heads work great when new and after a few months they dont seem to flow as they use to , i have 3 Koralia popwer heads that worked great new but dont seem to flow as good anymore !! i hate to keep buying new power heads that gets pretty expensive. any suggestions/solutions?

Have you tried taking them apart and cleaning them? I have to do that to my koralias every few months as I notice a decrease in flow as well.

You could soak them in vinegar. I just took mine apart and took the impellers out and cleaned them with water. a paper towel, and some elbow grease. As long as the impeller does not appear damaged there is no need to replace them.

you'll find this will not have as much of an affect on higher-quality power heads (i.e. tunzes, vortech, and some others). i have certainly seen this problem with my koralias that i use for salt water mixing. maintenance is always a good idea with any powerhead, though and does extend their life span no matter what brand.
