So, I have a 120 gallon tank. I have 1 850 Koralia so far, plan to get more. But, would 1050s be better? a lot of 850s or few 1050s? where should they be placed? at the live rock? at the sand bed? close to the top to move the water surface?

I would say maybe mix it up a bit. Although it is better to have more with lower power than a few with less. That way you will have less chances of having dead spots where detritus and stuff can build up. I don't like placing it near the sand bed, since it will blow all the sand up. Most people will put the powerheads near the surface of the water, so that it can move the surface of the water.

Wait 3 months, plenty will be on the market. So many getting out of the hobby. Alot start big and blow big budgets and then sell. Kinda like loan sharking, but you get everything for a 3rd. This is how i picked up my tank, mrc sump, mp40, apex, lr, and fish. Just look around alot of deals going on.
