was just wondering if I could put a skimer under my tank without using a sump tank?

I have no idea how you would put a skimmer under your tank without a sump. Unless you mean just having a tank underneath and putting your skimmer in it? If that's what you're talking about, its basically the same thing as a sump, just without dividers. If you just don't want a tank under your display tank at all, you can go with a HOB (hang on back) skimmer, which hangs on the side of your display tank.

thanks and what I had in mind was just puting the skimmer under and just having tubing from it to the tank

If you get one of those in-sump skimmers you would have to have a tank under your display. And by the way, welcome to the forum!

The skimmer pump isn't going to be strong enough to draw water from the tank, down to the stand, and then push it back up to the tank again. If you aren't running a sump, the only real option you have for running a skimmer is a HOB type
