Protein Skimmer for a 26g tank?

Hey

I was searching the site for suggestions about which protein skimmers to get for my 55 gallon and my 26 gallon. I came across some posts saying that for a samll tank like a 26 gallon a protein skimmer was not needed. Is this true and does it apply to reef tanks?

If you are absolutely religious about weekly water changes, a small tank can do okay without one. Personally, if I had it to do over again, I would still use one on the small tank. I found that even with my water changes, I was still seeing nitrates rise. Plus I had a hard time keeping the surface scum from building up. :twocents:
