protein skimmer

I have a 16 gallon and am using an Oceanic biocube protein skimmer and it produces alot of dirty brown water. I have to empty it probably 3 times a day. Is something wrong? or is that a good thing?

What is in your tank? How much are you feeding? When did you get the skimmer?

If your tank is over stocked or you are over feeding, the skimmer will pull more out. If you just got the skimmer, there is a chance that it will run like that for a while until it catches up then it will produce skimmate slower.

ive got about 20 lbs of live rock, bubble coral, goniopora, colt coral, colony of green zooanthids, 2 xenias, GSP, mushrooms, sand starfish, coral banded shrimp, cleaner shrimp, bicolored blenny, pajama cardinal, and 2-3 in live sand bed. Im running LED lighting with 1300 lumens, basic HOB a PO4 remover in it, a small powerhead and the protein skimmer.

3 inch sand bed in a tank that size is a bit too large IMO. The amount your Protein Skimmer pulls out is directly proportional to the amount of organic waste in your water, and that waste usually comes from feeding.
