Reef octo vs. Vertex

Ok im getting a new skimmer and these are the two I'm choosing from. Please help me choose. Thanks everyone. oh and I have a 220g reef and fish with a 75 g sump/refugium.

That reef octopus will be way overkill, you'd be better off with a smaller model also the SRO would be a better choice. This one would be better for your tank IMO (and much cheaper) Reef Octopus SUPER SRO 3000INT In-Sump Protein Skimmer - AquaCave.com

I always thought it was recomended to go 2x the size of your tank. Thats why I was going with the larger skimmers. I don't really care what they cost. I just want the best skimmer for my tank.

It's a good general rule to go 2x the size but, there is a point where if you go too big you end up sacrificing efficiency and the skimmer actually won't work as well as one slightly smaller. If you do decide you want with a 5000 series skimmer I'd go with the SRO instead of the XP. It's a little less expensive and has a better designed bubble chamber.
