I have a reef octopu skimmer and last night the pump flashed and blew the circuit breaker---how long are these supposed to last I think I had mine 5 years--it is an 8" in sump for a 100 gallon aqua?

It sounds like you found ground!
5 years is a fair deal. I wouldn't expect longer. I suppose it all depends on the condition it's in.
8 in reef octopus skimmers are rated for 225g plus tanks.

how about the reef octopus nwb150SSS I think mine zapped because the wire had to make an abrupt left to squeeze into the sump and the seal may have broken--should I just change the whole skimmer for a spacesaver? I have 12"x12" to work with in the sump

I would just buy the new pump for 50 bucks honestly unless you want to buy a whole new one. Coralvue (reef octopus) has all the parts you'll need same as brs, or marinedepot.
