Reintroducing a large rock

I am taking what is my largest rock out of my tank and going to clean it up. It will be out of the tank for at least 12 hours. Reason I'm doing it is because there is an area on it that always grows green hair algae very densely and I want to clean it up real good and let it sit out of the tank overnight so what's on it will die off after I scrub the large stuff off. Will it be ok to put it back in over about 12 hours time without seeing any kind of spike in water params or should I just leave it out for an extended amount of time until it recures?

how much rock do have in your tank

I don't know fir sure, it's a 40 gallon and there are several large pieces in it. I'd say 50 pounds without this rock and it is probably a 15 pounder.

Just scrub it in a bucket and put it back in. Killing all the bacteria seems like overkill
