Removed Half My Bioballs

Hello- I just removed half my bioballs from my 14G biocube and cleaned the remaining with distilled water for the first time in 6 months - I filled the remaing chamber with two smaller pieces of live rock that I had. I have had a persistent problem with nitrates hanging between 5-20 PPM and was concerned that the inverts I had in the tank would suffer. What should I expect now from a water chemistry standpoint and how soon should I see changes? Thanks

Don't expect anything to happen fast. 5-20 nitrate isn't that bad. How old is the tank? What's in it? How often do you do water changes?
Don't be so quick to think the bioballs are your problem, even tho I don't really see those #'s as a real problem. I can only speak from personal experience, but I used bioballs in my wet/dry for over 15 years. I never, repeat never, took them out and cleaned them and I never had a nitrate problem. Bi-weekly water changes and good husbandry will keep all your tanks parameters in line.
