RIP Fire Fish

Shep

Reefing newb
So both of my fire fish decided to jump to their deaths over this past week or it might have been a murder suicide (bad fish divorces can get brutal). I checked my levels and the only thing that is high is the nitrate which is at about 40ppm. It has been at this level for awhile and refuses to go down. So besides the nitrates could anything else have made them jump?
The only other thing in the tank is a gold assessor and he just chills and very bothers them. Also I do have a stupidly high level of algae in my tank right now due to my lights getting left on at 100% for 12 hours, I don't know if that might have something to do with it.
