run protein skimmer?

The guy at my lfs said i couldnt run my protien skimmer for the first two weeks after i put live rock in.I have only a power filter on i was wondering if that was enough aireation?thanks for any help you can give

ive ran a protein skimmer from day one and i didnt have a problem...just my :twocents:

Agree with running from start- the concern that many have is that you will extract good bacteria and organisms from the system.

If you have purchased well cured live rock, there are no issues- the system will maintain itself even if the skimmer is on.

If you purchased live rock that still needs to finish curing, the skimmer will be your best friend by removing the contaminents that the rock will release.

Ive Heard In Smaller Tankes That Its Not Always A Good Thing To Keep Ps On All The Time Mostly After Removal Of Un Wanted Alge And Water Changes (true Or False)for 24 Hours At A Time Becase Of Small Amounts Of Live Rocks In Lower Gallon Aquiariams.
