Rust?

Reefing newb
I was talking with my mom the other day and her and my sister both said rust is good for a reef tank. They have both had reef tanks for 8 -10 years now, but I just can't see how it would be good. Does anyone think rust is a good thing?

I'm not an expert on rust, but I have heard people blamming tank crashes on a rusty screw in a mag pump.

On the other side rust is usually just iron oxide, which is a compination of only two things Iron and Oxygen Fe2O3, I think chemistry was almost 5 years ago. Getting kinda rusty.. haha ok that was lame. If thats the case I don't see how it could be bad and infact could be potentially benefical. Kent even makes an iron supplement for growing macro algeas etc...

This is just my opinion and I would by no means go put a handful of rusty nails in my tank, but if I found a rusty screw on a pump I wouldn't spaz out.

I'm interested in others thoughts on this topic.
