?'s about aquarium heater

I was wondering about aquarium heater placement and how many heaters. I am setting up a 45g DT with a 20g-25g sump. The sump is being built by a co-worker of mine we are playing with dimensions right now to allow maximum water volume to fit under Aquarium stand. I have heard and seen heaters in the sump. Should I use one heater with enough wattage to handle the entire water volume in the DT and the sump or would it be better to use two smaller heaters, one in the sump and one in the DT. I do have to admit that it would be nice not to have a heater in the DT for visual effect, less wires and clutter in the tank.

Thanks to everyone that has helped me on this journey so far.:D

You can put just one in the sump, but its always a good idea to have one on hand. They break more than any other piece of equipment in this hobby.
