I'm gonna agree with Biff.Even 150 watt metal halide will eventually cook a 30 gallon tank. Not to mention, you'll have to replace the bulb every 6 to 8 months. Those are 100 bucks a pop.
Go with a good set of T-5s and save yourself the headache.

ok can you guys help me find some that are 24" long and will be good enough to have anything

Thanks

Teklight T5 Lighting Fixture
Size: 24"L x 15"W x 2.5"H
Lamps: 6
Watts: 24
Weight: 20 lb $324.00

What do you think?

That would be my light of choice.
That would give you 4 watts per gallon.Which is about what I'm getting on my 75.
You could keep anything you want too.

This is the order of the fixtures I prefer.Aquactinics,Tek,AquaMedic.
The Aquactinic has cooling fans, the cooler the bulb, the more efficient they run.The more efficient the better PAR(light for corals). The Tek will still be a good choice if moneys an issue.

Stick with ATI and UV bulbs mostly. They have best PAR value.

ok I will probably order from premium aquatics

unless you know somewhere that sells it cheaper?

It's $400 for the 24" fixture

What bulb colors to you suggest?

2 day 2 actinic 1?

Also the teks seem to be quite a bit cheaper, but how do they compare?

A 6 bulb Tek is the same as a 5 bulb TX5.I forgot the price went up on the Aquactinics.Consider both about equal.

If money an issue than look at the Nova Extreme Pro and Catalina, both have IR but don't use the better material for the reflectors,so I've read. Those two comes with bulbs too. That would save you a $100 or more.

I like bluish color
If I had the Tek 4 bulb
GE6500k
ATI Blue plus
ATI Aquablue special 12k
UV Super Actinic

Tek 6 bulb,I would add these to the above......
UV Aquasun 10k
ATI blue plus

TX5,
ATI blue plus
UV aquasun 10k
UV super actinic
Ge 6500k
ATI blue plus(softies,lps) or 14k(sps,clams)

Warning:these are my choices in what I think looks good.Slightly on the bluer side. Its very similar to my set up
