sand bed to living sand

for lack of elsewhere to pose this question--I am doing a thorough cleaning of my 90 gallon crushed coral substrate and lots of live rock -I was very remiss in keeping up on this thing so I don't even know if the live rock will regenerate but I want to do the substrate as living sand--question can I mix the coral and the living sand? also I will only have one fish as I do this modification of this tank so should I put the sand in all at once or add like a cup every two days? the live rock is being put in another vessel until I have figured all this out so it is almost like a new tahk oh eah I just out in an candy anemone couldn't stand the barreness so I put one in and it seemsa very happy

Your best bet would be to remove the crushed coral substrate entirely. Rinse all of the new sand to remove all of the dust before putting into your tank. With only one fish, the live rock alone should handle the bioload, as long as you keep the live rock live during this process.
