Sandbed

Reefing newb
I was wondering if anyone had experience with a DSB on a fish only tank? I was thinking about putting 6 inchs of sand in my fish only tank, I was hoping it would help convert nitrates.

I had a 6" sand bed in my 125 reef. was not pleased with it. the depth depends on the type of substrait used. the finer the grain the less depth needed. for reef grade substrait (too fine for jaw fish to properly dig) I would not go more than 4" deep, unless you have invertebrates or anenomes that requrie more. Im using a 3" deep sand bed with aragamax select. I will deal with nitrates with red mangroves in the refuge along with other critters and things.

This tank is to small for a refuge, its a 26 gallon bow front. I have a 6 inch DSB in my 55 gallons refuge which is 10 gallon tank, that with some plant life I have 0 nitrates in the Reef Tank, I was just thinking maybe a DSB in the 26 Fish only tank would help keep the nitrates down. Something to ponder. :)
