Sea Urchins

I have done a search on the forum for sea urchins, but did not seem to find much. I started my reef tank this past September 2005 by adding about 125lbs. of live rock. Attached to the live rock were several small 1-1.5 cm across sea urchins. Three and a half months later, several of these urchins are now 3 cm across and number about a dozen. My question is this: Are the urchins a welcomed or unwelcomed organism in a reef tank? They are a purplish color and move around quite freely. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Need Pictures

By the description it isn't exactly clear what type of organism you are describing. Do you have Corals in this tank or is it a fish only? If you have Corals, have you noticed aggressive behaviour?

Thanks for the response. I am going to attempt to post a photo to help identify. I am in the process of setting up a reef tank.
