Setting up new 100 gallon tank with overflow

My sump area is rather small 10" high x 20 " deep x 30 inches long. What is the
best media for a sump? I have heard that crushed live rock is good, but there
has got to be better stuff. Those ceramic cylinders? What brand? What combination
of stuff is best? I am going to do a fish / reef combo so not too much carbon right?

Sumps don't necessarily need 'media'. Is this a single chamber sump that is just for increasing water volume and holding a skimmer? If so you don't necessarily need live rock in it, though it wouldn't hurt.

You can certainly run carbon in a reactor plumbed into your sump, but I would sick with the recommendations on the packaging for the carbon

Also having rubble rock is actually the best thing you can put in your sump area.

+1 everyone. Use live rock rubble if you are going to use something.
