my biocube is running great. but i do not have a filter pad in the holder.i was wondering if i bought one would it through my tank off balance? or if there is a filter mod what should i do because it has debris floating around.

I dont see why putting a filter pad in would throw it off balance.
Just rinse it out every week or so.
How many powerheads do you have?

When I set up my cube I ran the filter pad for a couple days to polish the water. You should be okay. Just rinse it first.

Yep, what the others have said, it's fine to use one; just keep it clean. If it traps too much debris and crap your water quality could suffer.
