Silicone

Just make sure that it doesn't have any additives hat kill mold and mildew. That will harm your bacterial population. Avoid the stuff used for sealing bath tubs and sinks.
 
They usually have tubes sold by the fish supplies at most pet shops that is specifically for aquariums. It doesn't have any additives of course and I've heard that it's thicker although I don't know if that's true or not. Anyway, that'd be your safest bet I'd say.
 
You don't have to use the stuff that's specifically for aquariums. That's twice the price of the regular silicone at the hardware store. 100% silicone with no antimicrobial additives is fine.
