Skimmer Question

Ok this might be a dumb question but I am going to ask anyway. I have a Reef Octopus skimmer that's not a HOB. I don't have a sump set up but was wondering is it possible to place the skimmer in my tank for a week or so until I get things set up? will it work?

If you have is set at the correct height. I believe it is in the 8 to 9 inch depth depending on model.

even if you just place it in the tank and run water with no bubbles it will help with the break in period. Getting the right height figured out in your display tank will be difficult but you could make a shelf with eggcrate...
