soft, LPS,SPS

Soft corals don't have a clacium, external skeleton.Examples would be colt, leathers, zoas, cloves, kenya trees and many more.

LPS have external, calcium skeletons with large polyps. That is why they are called large polyp stony corals or LPS for short.Examples would be frogspawns, hammers, brains and many more.

SPS have hard, calcium skeletons with very small polyps and actually there are some that show no polyps at all like some moniporas. The polyps generally look like very short hairs. That is why they are called small polyp stonies or SPS for short.Acroporas, montiporas, porcillipora all fall under this category.
