some kind of algea????

hi all, been a while since i posted
all is well with my tank
my montipora is doing great
and i also picked up a ruffled ridge coral

however.....

on my powerheads there has been a red velvety looking stuff growing, does anybody know what it is???
It doesnt seem to be hurting anything, and it has seemed to limit itself to my powerheads

i think cyano is slimy red

I think you';re talking about Coraline. If so, its a good thing.

I get stuff like that on my power heads. All I do is place a couple snails on it and they eat it up.

It is bryopis algae. The stuff nothing really eats. If you really want to get rid of it, you can raise your magnesium to about 1500 ppm and the stuff will die. I wouldn't do that unless it gets really bad. Just tale the powerhead and run it in vinigar water. It will look brand new.
