starfish dead?

How do you know if a starfish is dead? It's a sand sifting one. All my other starfish are ok but it hasn't move in 3 hours, just sitting there on top of the sand.

Usually,stars will lose its arms before it dies.They kinda just start coming apart.
Yours may just be eating something.

Flip him over and see if his tentacles within the five fingers of the star are moving.
Also, if flipped over on the sand, they will right themselves immediately if alive.

Im getting rid of my sandsifting star. Ever since I have added him I havent seen any mysids at all in my tank and before him their were tons and tons of them. I need a Harlequin Shrimp.

if it was dead would the fishes or little crabs eat it? I cant get a hold of it because where it is at I would have to move alot of the rocks,and the lights are out now and its near where the trigger likes to sleep.

Ok its not dead but it sure did look like it I've never seen it so still for such a long time.

if it was dead, it would start to disintegrate and it would be covered by your cleaning crew. I will go weeks without seeing them in my tank but low and behold, they just keep showing up!
