I have been wondering what kind of hitchhikers were lurking around my tank.

I have a strange growth on one of my rocks. It looks like a thin layer of a white fuzzy substance. Definitely interesting to see what comes on the rock or in some cases in it.

They can. They have been known to eat corals. Some people have them in their tank and they've never touched a coral. Some people have seen them wipe out entire colonies of corals. If you are worried about your corals, it's better safe than sorry -- remove the stars.
