starfish?

i found out its a sand sifting star for sure.

as for its spikes stinging, it didnt sting me. i picked it up to put it n the tank. all it did was get hard.

so far i havent seen it hurt anything n my tank

and thats really sad bout the crown of thorns killing the great barrier reef. i had no idea starfish could do such damage

i'd suggest not hanging onto him too long... sand sifting stars dont live long in our tanks at all :( they are going to eat everything in the sand (good and bad) and then they usually die from starvation... keep him for a month or so and then take him back to the LFS, you'll have a very clean (and mostly dead lol) sand bed.

also theres a lot of regular sea stars that kill things... here on the CA coast we have Bat Stars, Ochre Stars, and both of them can pry apart any clam mussle or crab they see fit... in fact thats a main part of their diet. Its a really neat thing to watch em eat and marvel at the strength they have :) I have a video somewheres from the aquarium of one feeding... I'll find it and post it for everyone to see
