I just needed it to keep the baffles in place. No pressure or anything. Just the separation. I understand a lot of people do it this way.

Yes, for baffles it's fine, because the baffles don't need to be water tight, and there isn't a lot of pressure on them. If some water leaks around the edges of the baffles, that's fine.
